How are we in August already?
Summer months always go by so fast, but I haven’t forgotten about our August Housekeeping Checklist.
I hope you’re having a wonderful time and weather.
Now let’s tackle a few more house chores to keep us up to date.
August Housekeeping Checklist
1. Limit the Dust Culprit
Air conditioning and heating systems produce dust (or accumulate it), that’s a fact. Especially if you have forced air heat. So, change the filter regularly; vacuum and/or wipe your radiators and your air conditioning.
Your basement (or a spare room) rarely gets used? Go there with your vacuum cleaner this month and do a once over.
It’s always a good idea, once a year, have your valuable jewellery cleaned and checked. Most stores do it for free if you go back to where you bought your jewellery (plus it’s strongly recommended if you want to keep your guarantee).
You can also use a store-bought or DIY cleaning solution and get your valuable jewellery shiny and sparkling again.
3. Prepare for The Harvest
Before you embark on a canning spree, clean your fridge and your freezer by throwing away expired food. Because, you need to save all those veggies you worked so hard for. Also, see if you have doubles of anything and combine.
Take out anything that’s left and quickly wipe surfaces. Wipe the containers and put them back. Vacuum behind and under your fridge and clean coils.
It shouldn’t take you more than 15-20 minutes, if you move quickly
Some materials are items you can put directly in your recycling bin or bag, and others you have to take to an Eco-Station yourself.
This month gather your hard to recycle materials: paint, oil, batteries, old appliances, broken electronics, etc., and make a trip to the Eco-Station.
There are a couple more months of nice weather around, so you still have some time to maintain that beautiful yard/garden/pots of yours. You could even plant a few more things – check with your local greenhouse.
BONUS – Self Care
- Do a mid-year reboot of your goals
- Organize a get together with family and friends
- Go to the lake, beach, river
- Get ready for Back to School season
These are just ideas, you should increase or diminish the frequency for each task, according to your household habits. Also, please make sure you always check your user manuals for instructions before you tackle any electronics or appliances.
