January evokes warm blankets, staying in, a lot of hot tea and just generally cozying up to pass this long winter month.
I think I could live inside in January, if not for having to walk our dog and the many winter festivals, calling all hibernating souls to GET OUTSIDE!
My desire to eat soup is usually pretty high (one of my favourite foods), but never as high as at this time of year.
Meanwhile, our spaces still need a bit of TLC and maybe some decluttering if you have the energy. Check these few tasks to get your home in order.
January Housekeeping Checklist
Make sure you take care of your heating system and limit dust and potential allergens by changing the filter regularly.
If you’re not responsible for that task; vacuum and/or wipe your heaters.
This time of year is often synonymous with flu season. Fight back by disinfecting handles, doorknobs, light switches, remotes, phones, keyboards and other electronics or any other items in high traffic areas or that you touch every day.
Take this time to also get rid of any expired products or medicine. All drugs have an expiry date and self-care products usually have a symbol letting you know how long you can keep it after it’s opened.
Everybody has their own rules about how long to keep seasonal decorations. But when you do put them away, go through your stash first and declutter what you’re not going to use anymore. Donate usable items, recycle if you can and trash the rest.
Did you get new “ toys “ replacing older versions? Pass on toys and games your kids don’t play with anymore and donate or recycle old electronics.
BONUS – Self Care
- Introduce a new habit.
- Go outside, even if it’s cold.
- Prioritize sleep.
- Recommit to your goals.
These are just ideas, you should increase or diminish the frequency for each task according to your household habits. Also, please make sure you always check your user manuals for instructions before you tackle any electronics or appliances.
