Hello June Housekeeping Checklist!
June has always felt like a promise to me. A promise of the warm days to come, of time away and vacation, of summer memories to create.
Even now that I’m all grown up, I still feel this in the air.
Time to enjoy summer … Finally!
And to take care of a few things along the way.
June Housekeeping Checklist
1. Take Care of Your Sleep
I like to vacuum my mattress once in a while, mostly to get rid of dust and other allergens. Most vacuums come with a special attachment design for this task. Unless you have a memory foam mattress, it’s also a good idea to flip and rotate your mattress, to help it keep its form.
2. Health and Safety
Your vacuum cleaner works hard for you, help it do its job by cleaning or changing its filter regularly and emptying the canister every time you use it. Always check the user manual for all the details.
3. Let The Light Shine In
This is NOT a task I enjoy doing, but once in a while treating our windows to some deep cleaning is highly satisfying.
Wash the outside of your windows with warm water and a few drops of dish soap (or your favourite window cleaner). Using a squeegee might speed things up and prevent streaks.
Once a year, power wash the house. We have the proper tool and Hubby loves that thing :). Or you could just hose it down to get rid of the dust.
4. Add Some life
Summers are somewhat short in Canada, or the planting season anyway. Don’t miss it. Add some colour to your flower beds, pots or balcony planters.
Weeding is part of gardening or maintaining a yard. It’s quite dry here usually, but any time we get showers, weeds grow like crazy. It’s also easier to remove them when the soil is damp.
5. Clean Out The Garage
Once a year, it’s also a good idea to declutter and clean out your garage and/or shed. There’s bound to be stuff in there you don’t use anymore or need to go to the Eco-station.
6. School’s Out
If you have school-aged kids, there is a good chance they will come home with a collection of art and school projects. Decide together what you want to keep and then preserve them properly. There are infinite ways to keep the precious ones: frame some, collect in a nice binder, add a few to a souvenir box, scan or take photos and order a photobook, etc.
BONUS – Self Care
- Do something special for the dads in your life
- Replace clothes that don’t fit your body anymore, choose comfort over body shaming
- Reduce your To Do List and choose Summer Fun instead
- Rest if you need to!
These are just ideas, you should increase or diminish the frequency for each task according to your household habits. Also, please make sure you always check your user manuals for instructions before you tackle any electronics or appliances.
