Another month, another Housekeeping Checklist!
Ah November! The month I like to call the in-between month. It’s still somewhat fall, but not quite winter yet. Around here, the leaves are mostly gone, but, if we’re lucky, there is no snow on the ground.
It’s a month for slowing down before all the December festivities and for getting everything ready for winter.
Here is my November Monthly Housekeeping Checklist to get you started.

1. Kitchen
There might be fun gatherings with a lot of cooking and baking in the near future. Keep your small appliances clean and your disposals smelling fresh.
Clean your coffee maker, your kettle with white vinegar (or a brand name cleaner made for this).
Easily scrub your microwave by heating a few slices of lemon with a bit of water for a minute. Let sit for another and wipe it clean.
Give your trash and recycle cans a wash and rinse; I do it in the bathtub to make it easier.
Refresh your garbage disposal by grinding a fresh lemon or using baking soda and boiled vinegar.
2. Living Space
Before guests come over, clean and treat sofas.
If you have a spare bedroom, it’s time to get it ready.
3. Health and Safety
One year, our furnace stopped working during one of the lovely cold snaps we get. No need to tell you we were very thankful to have a fireplace to heat us through the night.
Don’t neglect your heating and cooling system. Have your furnace, ducts, humidifier and water heater services. Bonus! You won’t have to replace your furnace filter, they will do it for you.
4. Seasonal
Pick a sunny weekend, ask the family to help and:
- Clean your BBQ & check the tank;
- Install seasonal decorations;
- Protect and prune plants;
- Rake leaves or leave on the ground as fertilizer, see this link to know-how.
BONUS – Self Care
- Daylight Saving Time Ends, go back to sleep for an hour – unless you have a pet or kids!
- Start your holiday shopping list, consider gifting experiences or consumables.
- Light candles, cancel your plans and stay in …
PLEASE NOTE
These are just ideas, you should increase or diminish the frequency for each task according to your household habits. Also, please make sure you always check your user manuals for instructions before you tackle any electronics or appliances.
